Because I seem to be a masochist. At least this one’s got dependable French underpinnings.

Brother!
(picture from last year, it’s at 354k currently if i’m not mistaken, I don’t drive it as much any more )
One thing I forgot to ‘warn’ you about: timing belt. It’s 120k km or 10 years, whichever comes first. Given the insanely low kms on yours I bet the time interval is leading here. As it’s very close to 20 years old the belt change might be due soon.

That’s such a weird temp gauge. I like it.

:O
What ride is this? :D

It’s oil temperature. The w ater temperature gauge is on the right, you barely see its edge in the picture.

Oh, it’s one of those Italian built cars with French running gear!

A French car built in Italy!
Peugeot 406 coupé, built by Pininfarina. They did the Focus CC too so that would be an Italian car with a melange of German and US design.

Oh, even cooler! Only big trucks get those in the US.

Really? My other car (admittedly the same brand) has one too. Plus an oil pressure gauge.

That’s such a great cluster, I’m jealous.
And no, most USDM stuff doesn’t even have a coolant temp gauge!

According to the service records the belt has been done alongside the clutch last year at 170k.

That makes it an even better purchase then.
How do you like it so far?

Given that the previous owner spent more on replacing the timing belt, clutch and catalytic converter last year than I spent on the entire car, I’d argue it was pretty decent value. Especially since everything seems to work (I have yet to figure out what the stock below the indicator does).
Wrong colour. I wanted a blue one. Silver is boring.
Y ou were right, the 2.0 is pretty underpowered. Did you know that the Coupe is actually quite a bit heavier than the good old Maxima?
The shifter seems very rubbery, is yours the same way?
T he amount of shit I’ve already gotten from my peers for choosing something non-german is insane.
Seems quite long legged. 80 0km between refills should be possible.
Why is there a LOUD option for the sound system?
You can sort of maybe fit four people my size in there.
Literally the first car I owned with folding rear seats.
Previous owner retrofitted the loudest parking sensors known to mankind. I immediately disconnected the buzzer.

The stock below the indicator? Cruise control. There is a button next to the OBD2 (which is not an OBD2 port) for cruise control that should always be enabled. I never ever touch it. When that button I pressed, the stock works like this:
Move towards you: off.
Move down when off: set speed.
Move up when off: accelerate/engine brake to previously set speed
Move up or down when on: speed up/down.
I had the shifter cables replaced recently. It’s fine now. It is no MX-5 though.
I once took it on holiday with 3 others, to Italy . I don’t have enough headroom in the back, but if you don’t have my freak body you can sit just fine in there.
It is insane to me how cheap these cars still are. They are very reliable and pretty, decent to drive yet economically worthless.

406 Coupés are the new Twingos. I think the 2.2 HDI is probably the best engine option though.
